I think sunburns are from the UV rays, not the light itself. That's why you are supposed to where UV blocking sunglasses, if I'm remembering correctly.
I used to tell people that I tanned no matter what, as long as the sun was out, I would get tanned. Didn't have a total farmers tan when I worked construction, I figured that was at least in part tanning through my clothes. That and playing water basketball in the evenings...
